Do you have children attending your centre with a Thumb or Finger sucking habit?

Do parents ask you for help with their child’s problem of thumb or finger sucking?

It is a significant problem for some children and from a dental perspective this habit can have devastating effects.

Sucking on a thumb or fingers can change the shape of the bones in the mouth particularly the palate. Sucking on thumbs and fingers can also move teeth.

This can cause an `Open Bite’ which means the front teeth cannot meet. The child will probably have delayed speech development and possibly eating problems. Tongue thrusting is also associated with an Open Bite.

Also if the child falls, and many children do, there is greater risk of trauma to the front teeth because they are protruding significantly.

As the child grows the permanent teeth are often mal-positioned and sometimes require thousands of dollars of specialty Orthodontic treatment. (Braces)

Well, I’ve just discovered a product that might be able to help.

THUMBSIE is an Award Winning UK product that has proven success with stopping children sucking thumbs or fingers in a gentle supportive way.

No yukky paints for finger nails, no band aids on fingers, it’s a simple fabric device that comes in heaps of fun designs and is comfortable to wear.
